UN envoy meets AU officials to align efforts on Libya

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has announced continued consultations with African Union officials in the lead-up to a scheduled meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council on the situation in Libya.
In a statement issued Wednesday, UNSMIL confirmed that the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, met with Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Téte António, in his role as Chair of the African Union Executive Council.
The discussion focused on the current political and security developments in Libya, the broader implications for the Sahel region, and key issues such as national reconciliation and irregular migration.
According to the UN mission, both sides stressed the importance of a unified and timely response from the African Union and the wider international community in support of Libya’s political process. They also noted the need for measures aimed at preventing a resurgence of conflict.
The statement added that the meeting also covered outcomes from the latest session of the International Follow-up Committee on Libya, which took place in Berlin last month.
Both officials emphasised the value of continued cooperation between the UN and the African Union to support the political process facilitated by UNSMIL, with the aim of fostering peace and stability in Libya.
