The members of the United Nations Security Council welcomed Thursday the recent efforts to strengthen an inclusive political dialogue among all Libyans, supported by Libya’s neighbours, international partners and regional organizations within the framework of the Libyan Political Agreement endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution (2259.)

The UN Security Council also hailed the meeting of Fayez Al Serraj, the Head of the Presidential Council of Libya, and Khalifa Haftar, the commander of Operation Dignity, hosted in Paris by the President of the French Republic on the 25th of July, and the Joint Declaration issued after the meeting.

The UNSC members urged all Libyans to support a negotiated political solution, national reconciliation, and an immediate ceasefire, as called for in the Joint Declaration.

The members of the Security Council underscored as well the importance of the United Nations’ central role in facilitating Libyan-led political dialogue, welcome the appointment of the new SRSG Ghassan Salame and look forward to supporting his efforts to facilitate a political solution in Libya.

They further welcomed the Secretary General’s personal involvement in helping Libyans build stability, security, and national unity.

Paris Meeting that took place last Tuesday ended up by a joint statement that declared an upcoming ceasefire across Libya and elections for the presidential and legislative sectors in the country agreed upon by Al-Serraj and Haftar.
