A US airstrike killed a suspected ISIS militant in Libya on Tuesday, the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said.

AFRICOM said in a statement that the airstrike on the northwestern town of Bani Walid was carried out in coordination with the UN-backed government based in Tripoli.

AFRICOM did not name what it called an “ISIS-Libya terrorist” news reports said he was Walid Bu Hariba from Sirte , where ISIS terrorists had its main base in the country until 2016.

Residents had earlier reported an air strike on a car in Bani Walid in which an Islamic State militant had been traveling. Photos on social media showed a white pick-up truck purportedly hit by a projectile.
