Western region’s Coast Guard rescues over 850 immigrants off Sabratha shores
The spokesman of the Coast Guard in the western region, Ayoub Kasim, said an inspection patrol intercepted Sunday morning 7 shaky boats filled almost with 850 illegal migrants of different Arab and African nationalities, saying they were caught 60miles off northern Sabratha shores.
Kasim added in a press statement that all the immigrants ad been rescued after the help of a tower from the Azzawiya Oil Refinery Company, which assisted in taking one big rickety boat to safety.
He indicated that they rescued illegal migrants were received by the Libyan Red Crescent and the International Medical Association, which provided them with medical and humanitarian aids.
“There were 79 women, 11 of whom were pregnant and 11 kids.” Stated Kasim, clarifying that all of the illegal immigrants were taken to the Immigration Interception Authority in Azzawiya city.
