UN appoints Lebanese former minister Ghassan Salame as new delegate to Libya

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, ordered on Friday the appointment of the former Lebanese Culture Minister Ghassan Salame as the new Head of the UNSMIL and Special delegate to Libya by the UN.
Salame, who was a minister at the reign of Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, is currently based in Paris. He was also appointed as an adviser to the UN mission in Iraq in 2003 after the toppling of Saddam Hussein.
Salame will replace Martin Kobler of Germany, who was appointed in November 2015 replacing Bernardino Leaon of Spain.
Salame will be the delegate number six after Martin Kobler, Bernardino Leon, Tarek Mitri, Ian Martin, and Abdul Ilah Khatib.
