166 illegal immigrants rescued off Libya’s coast
A Libyan coastguard patrol rescued 166 illegal immigrants from different African nationalities off the coast of Garabulli, Libya.
The rescue operation was carried out by the boat Sabratha, and among the rescued were “5 women and 14 children,” according to the media office of the Libyan Navy Facebook page.
The illegal immigrants were sent to the naval base in Tripoli and handed over to the illegal immigration agency. The illegal immigration agency housed them in its headquarters, providing first aid and meals until contacting their embassies to return them voluntarily to their countries in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The Libyan coast guard had rescued 209 illegal immigrants from African and Arab nationalities earlier this month.
