Unemployed youths vow to shut down key Libya oilfield

Several unemployed Libyan youths vowed on Sunday to shut down oilfields in Marada town in the eastern Libyan region unless demands for better state services are answered by the government.

An oil engineer reported to Reuters that despite the threat, oil production was running normally through the pipeline feeding Es Sider oil terminal, which runs near Marada.

The statement of the youths complained about an absent state, lack of health care and other services, and Marada town’s lack of road links to other communities, Reuters reported.

The youths were also demanding jobs at state oil firm NOC, one security official said, according to Reuters.
