Libya’s Sharara oilfield is going to remain shut until armed groups leave the site, the Chairman of state oil company NOC said on Thursday.

“NOC is technically ready to lift the state of force majeure at Sharara, but the issue that remains is security,” Mustafa Sanallah said in a video message.

Sanallah called on Khalifa Haftar’s forces, which he said had regained control of Sharara this month, to ensure armed groups have been removed.

Sanallah added that the union of oil workers had told NOC in a letter that staff of Sharara did not feel safe because of the presence of armed groups.
