At Group 5+5 meetings, Libya, Italy’s foreign ministers discuss ending Tripoli offensive

The Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala attended Monday 5+5 Group meetings in Marseille, France, and discusses with the countries’ foreign ministers the issues related to economy, development and other pertaining issues. 

On the sidelines of the meetings, Sayala met with the Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Milanesi and revised the current offensive on Tripoli by Khalifa Haftar’s forces and the ways to end it.

The two foreign ministers also discussed the initiative for peace and negotiations as well as elections in Libya proposed by the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj.

“The Government of National Accord won’t break away from the efforts to build a Libyan state of democracy and civilian authority and will continue to defend civilians against Haftar’s attack in Tripoli and elsewhere in Libya.” Sayala told Milanesi.
