Desert Locust Control Chief: Libya Eliminates 80% of Swarms
Libya’s National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts has successfully eliminated approximately 80% of African desert locust swarms in the country, according to Committee Head Salah Mubarak.
Agricultural damage has been extensive across Libya’s southern and southwestern regions, with more than 1,250 hectares of cropland affected. The infestation has also damaged two million date palms in Tazirbu, an oasis town in southern Libya.
Mubarak warned that additional locust swarms could emerge, urging Libyan authorities to provide urgent support to the committee through additional equipment and pesticides.
