Jumhouria Bank completes ISO 20022 transition
Libya’s largest bank moves to ISO 20022 standard to boost global connectivity

Jumhouria Bank has announced the successful completion of its full transition to the SWIFT-MX ISO 20022 messaging standard, becoming the first bank in Libya — and among the leading institutions in the region — to implement the advanced international framework.
The bank described the move as a strategic milestone that places Libya on the global map of financial innovation. It said the new system enables faster and more secure international transfers, reduces operational errors, and ensures smoother integration with international banking networks.
According to the statement, this achievement reflects the strategic vision of the Board of Directors and the executive management to drive digital transformation and position Jumhouria Bank among the region’s leading financial institutions.
In a related development, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, appointed Suleiman E. Alazzabi as General Manager of Jumhouria Bank on 2 August, succeeding Nouri Flayjah, who previously served in an acting capacity.
The Central Bank said the appointment is part of its broader strategy to restructure state-owned financial institutions and strengthen leadership across key banking entities.
