Lebanon welcomes “positive step” from Dbeibah government

The Lebanese committee investigating the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr has confirmed that it received investigation documents from a delegation representing Libya’s Government of National Unity.

In a brief statement, the committee said the Libyan delegation confirmed that the delivery of the documents marks the beginning of official cooperation between the two sides regarding the long-standing case.

The Lebanese side added that it presented several proposals to the Libyan delegation to enhance coordination and support the ongoing investigation.

The committee clarified that the issue of Hannibal Gaddafi was not discussed during the meeting, noting that the talks focused solely on cooperation mechanisms linked to the Musa al-Sadr case.

“We welcome this initial step from the Libyan authorities and reaffirm our readiness to cooperate in pursuit of the truth,” the statement said.

Imam Musa al-Sadr, the founder of Lebanon’s Amal Movement, disappeared in August 1978 along with Sheikh Mohammed Yaqub and journalist Abbas Badreddine during an official visit to Libya. The case remains one of the most prominent and sensitive issues in Lebanese–Libyan relations.
