Libya Cabinet Minister Survives Shooting

Libya’s Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Adel Jumaa survived an apparent assassination attempt on Thursday when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle on a Tripoli motorway, government officials said.
Minister Jumaa sustained gunshot wounds to his legs but is in stable condition after receiving hospital treatment, according to a statement from Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU).
“Security services have launched an intensive investigation to uncover the circumstances of this incident and apprehend those responsible,” the GNU statement said. The minister has since been discharged from hospital.
The shooting marks the latest security challenge for Libya’s fragile unity government, which has struggled to assert control amid ongoing political divisions.
“This government will not tolerate any attempts to undermine state security or threaten the nation’s stability,” the GNU statement emphasised, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening security measures and upholding the rule of law.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred amid heightened tensions in the capital. Security forces have increased patrols in the area whilst the investigation continues.
