Libya let two-goal lead slip in Liberia stalemate

Libya surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Liberia in their second international friendly on Tuesday evening, as the visitors mounted a strong second-half recovery.
The Libyan national side began brightly, asserting control in midfield and dictating the tempo for much of the opening period. Liberia, initially subdued, gradually grew into the contest and began to threaten the Libyan goal.
The visitors nearly took the lead midway through the first half, but goalkeeper Murad Al-Wuheishi produced an excellent save to keep the scores level.
Libya eventually broke the deadlock in the 44th minute, when Mohannad Etoo launched a swift attacking move that was finished by captain Al-Moatasem Al-Musrati, who headed home with precision.
Moments later, deep into first-half stoppage time, Azzo Al-Marimi doubled Libya’s advantage, giving the hosts a commanding 2-0 lead at the break.
However, the complexion of the match shifted dramatically early in the second half. Liberia made key tactical changes, while Libya were reduced to ten men in the 50th minute following the dismissal of defender Ibrahim Aburweis.
With a numerical advantage, Liberia intensified their pressure, pushing higher up the pitch and forcing Libya onto the defensive. The Libyan technical staff also voiced frustration over several refereeing decisions during this period.
Liberia pulled a goal back in the 76th minute before completing their comeback five minutes later, levelling the score at 2-2 and restoring parity.
The result leaves Libya with valuable lessons ahead of upcoming fixtures, as defensive lapses and discipline issues proved costly despite a dominant first-half display.
