New Lockerbie trial looms as top detective breaks silence

The head of the Scottish investigation team into the Lockerbie bombing, Stuart Cosar, has suggested another trial under Scottish jurisdiction may be held in the future, according to the Scottish Daily Express.
Cosar emphasised that the investigation into the 1988 attack, which killed 270 people when Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed, has never ceased.
Cosar, who was appointed to investigate the case in 1999, maintains strong relationships with the families of American victims. He recalled meeting Abdelbaset al-Megrahi once, describing him as “polite” and noting “he spoke well, and he spoke English.”
The Scottish investigator believes al-Megrahi’s gentle demeanour may explain why some people were inclined to believe in his innocence.
The investigator criticised the Scottish National Party’s decision to release al-Megrahi, stressing it was “a purely governmental decision” unrelated to police or prosecutorial recommendations.
Cosar expressed hope that the ongoing US trial of Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi (referred to as “Bouajila Mreimi” in the original source) would bring “some healing” to American victims’ families who remained unconvinced by the Scottish authorities’ decision to release al-Megrahi.
