Report: Libyan weapons seized en route to Sudan’s RSF
Sudanese newspaper Al-Mandara has reported the Sudanese army’s seizure of a substantial arms shipment allegedly intended for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The shipment, reportedly originating from Benghazi, contained over 10,000 weapons and a significant amount of ammunition.
According to the report, which cites military intelligence sources, the weapons were transported by four large tractors disguised with the logos of international aid organisations.
The operation allegedly involved a Libyan national, Mahmoud Al-Shami, who oversaw the transfer of the shipment to a network of individuals in Libya and Chad before its intended delivery to the RSF in Sudan.
These allegations coincide with accusations made by Sudan’s representative to the Security Council, Al-Harith Idris, who has claimed that forces aligned with Khalifa Haftar in eastern Libya are providing logistical support to the RSF.
Idris specifically identified the Subul Al-Salam Battalion, based in Kufra, as being involved in the supply of ammunition and mortars to the RSF.
These reports shed light on the potential involvement of external actors and the complex logistical networks facilitating the flow of weapons into Sudan, contributing to the ongoing conflict.
