The US Command in Africa (AFRICOM) said the US warplanes have carried out 65 airstrikes until last Thursday when it bombed IS locations in Sirte three times.

The US, which started bombarding IS in Sirte on August 1st under the request of the UN-brokered Government of National Accord, named this operation as Odyssey Lightning, which comes as a follow-up operation to the NATO’s Odyssey Dawn operation that helped topple dictator Muamar Gaddafi in 2011.

The media bureau of the military operation of the UN-backed Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord, Al-Bunayn Al-Marsous – said two car bombs were exploded Thursday by the IS militants in Sirte attempting to repossess the Neighbourhood 2 they lost two days ago.

The media bureau said 15 fighters from the forces were killed and about 65 injured in the deadly blast that took place Thursday morning at one of the gatherings of the Misurata-led forces nearby Jahid Campaign building.

Misurata Central Hospital confirmed that it received huge numbers of dead and injured fighters and therefore announced the state of emergency in the hospital over the incident.
