Libyan coastguards rescue 400 migrants off Sabratha shores
The Libyan naval and coastguard patrols rescued Wednesday about 400 illegal immigrants off the shores of Sabratha city.
According to the coastguard sources, the migrants were all stuffed in a rickety wooden boat and were in danger of drowning when the patrols rescued them.
The migrants were later taken to the Naval Base in Abu Sitta, Tripoli, for humanitarian and medical assistance before they are sent to shelter centers.
Libya has become the number one destination for immigrants, especially African nationals, to cross the sea into Italy on smuggling gangs’ boats.
