Israel launched airstrikes in Iran
Israel launched airstrikes in Iran early Saturday morning, targeting military sites in retaliation for a missile attack by Iran on October 1st. The strikes, which began just after 2 a.m. local time, were heard in Tehran and Karaj.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operation, stating they are conducting “precise strikes on military targets” in response to “months of continuous attacks” by Iran and its proxies.
They emphasised Israel’s right to defend itself and vowed to “do whatever necessary to defend the State of Israel and the people of Israel.”
Iranian media reported five explosions in Tehran and Karaj, including possible strikes at Imam Khomeini International Airport and an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps headquarters. Explosions were also reported in Syria and Iraq.
This follows a fire on Friday at an Iranian Defense Ministry location in Tehran and reports that Israel planned to target Iran’s nuclear program.
Earlier this month, Iran fired approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel, prompting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to promise a response.
