Dabaiba denounced the suspension of the constitution

The head of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, has addressed concerns regarding the country’s constitutional referendum process.

During a meeting with Constitution Drafting Assembly members, Mr Dabaiba emphasised the need to reactivate the assembly’s role in completing the constitutional process, describing it as fundamental to Libya’s stability.

“The people elected the members of the Assembly directly and for a clear and specific purpose, which is to draft a constitution that expresses the aspirations of all Libyans,” Mr Dabaiba said.

He stressed that any attempts to obstruct this path would impede Libya’s progress towards establishing a state based on law and institutions. The prime minister pledged his government’s support for the assembly’s efforts to achieve this national objective.

The Constitution Drafting Assembly, elected through direct popular vote, has been tasked with drafting the country’s constitution. The GNU, established as an interim government, has identified constitutional reform as a priority amidst the country’s ongoing political process.
