Italian airline to launch flights to Libya in January
Italy’s national carrier ITA Airways will commence services between Rome and Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport from 12 January, the Libyan Embassy in Rome has announced.
The service, initially operating twice weekly, was confirmed during a meeting between Libyan Ambassador Muhannad Saeed and ITA Airways’ Head of International Affairs Giorgio Garbiglio. Plans include future expansion to other Libyan airports.
Ambassador Saeed pledged support to address any operational challenges, noting the service would strengthen bilateral relations.
The embassy stated the initiative aims to enhance economic and commercial cooperation between Libya and Italy.
The announcement follows the resumption of Rome-Tripoli flights in September 2023, marking the end of a decade-long suspension due to European restrictions on Libyan aviation.
