Egyptian national confesses to livestock fraud scheme in Libya
An Egyptian national working as a butcher in Sebha has been arrested for allegedly defrauding livestock suppliers of 420,000 Libyan Dinars, Libya’s Stability Support Apparatus announced yesterday.
The suspect was caught at the Zuwara-Ras Jedir checkpoint following an alert from Sebha Security. Officials report he was attempting to flee to Italy with his family after acquiring livestock without payment and allegedly bribing officials to bypass regulations.
When apprehended, the man was carrying over $26,000 equivalent. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to all charges.
The case and all evidence have been transferred to the Public Prosecutor’s office for further legal action.
The arrest comes as part of ongoing efforts to combat financial crime and illegal migration along Libya’s western border.
