LAIP taps IRC for cement plant survey

IRC and LAIP set roadmap for geological survey at Misurata cement plant site

A coordination meeting was held on Monday between the technical committee for the Misurata Cement Plant project and the Industrial Research Centre (IRC), at the Centre’s headquarters in Tripoli.

The meeting focused on finalising the work plan, project timeline, and technical requirements outlined in the agreement between the Libyan African Investment Portfolio (LAIP) and the IRC.

The agreement covers the implementation of a comprehensive geological survey in the area south of Misurata, where the cement plant is planned.

The study aims to update earlier geological assessments and verify the availability and suitability of raw materials at the proposed site.

The meeting also included a review of the key contractual provisions, along with the technical, administrative, and logistical steps needed to ensure completion in line with the agreed schedule.

This cooperation forms part of broader efforts to advance project preparations and utilise national expertise through the Industrial Research Centre.

The geological study is viewed as an initial step towards the potential development of the Misurata Cement Plant, with wider implications for industrial activity, local development, and sustainable investment.
