NOC and University of Benghazi join forces to boost petroleum education

Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) and the University of Benghazi are moving to deepen cooperation in petroleum sciences, training, and technology transfer, in a bid to strengthen the country’s energy expertise and academic capabilities.
NOC Chairman Eng. Masoud Suleiman met with Dr. Abdelkarim Al-Ghazali, Acting President of the University of Benghazi, and Magdi Al-Otaibi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum – Jalu Branch, to discuss joint initiatives aimed at advancing petroleum education, developing training programs, and localising technical know-how.
During a visit to the NOC’s Sustainable Development Department, the university delegation presented plans to improve facilities and academic departments—changes that, officials said, would directly enhance education quality. Al-Ghazali praised the corporation’s ongoing support, which has included implementing the first phase of an electronic archiving project, supporting a digital transformation program, printing university publications, and establishing classrooms.
Both parties also explored NOC’s potential role in funding the second phase of the archiving initiative, which would connect faculties electronically with the central administration—modernizing management and shifting operations from traditional systems to fully integrated digital platforms.
The collaboration underscores a growing alignment between Libya’s energy sector and its higher education institutions, as the country works to develop the skilled workforce needed to sustain its most vital industry.
