UK expresses readiness to assist Libya’s armed institutions

Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah met with senior British defence officials in Tripoli on Tuesday to discuss expanding cooperation between Libya and the United Kingdom in the areas of military training, institutional development, and security reform.
The delegation, led by Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the UK Ministry of Defence’s Senior Adviser for the Middle East and North Africa, was accompanied by British Ambassador Martin Longden. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, discussions focused on capacity-building initiatives designed to enhance the professionalism and effectiveness of Libya’s armed forces.
Vice Admiral Ahlgren reiterated the UK’s readiness to provide technical expertise and support for Libya’s defence sector, while emphasising Britain’s commitment to promoting regional stability and security cooperation.
The meeting was attended by State Minister for Communication and Political Affairs Walid al-Lafi, Army Chief of Staff General Mohamed al-Haddad, and Deputy Chief of Staff General Salah al-Namroush.
