Moroccan Consul urges Libya to ease residency rules for students

Moroccan consul asks Libya to extend deadline for students’ residency papers

The Moroccan Consul in Libya has sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity (GNU), requesting coordination with the Ministry of Education to grant Moroccan nationals more time to regularise their educational status.

The consulate appealed to the Libyan authorities to consider the particular circumstances of the Moroccan community, which has faced challenges for years due to the absence of formal consular representation in Libya. The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also been notified of the decision and the concerns raised by community members.

These calls follow an announcement by the GNU’s Ministry of Education that foreign students will not be permitted to enrol in the 2025/2026 academic year unless they hold a valid residency permit of at least one year. A three-month grace period has been granted for students without valid permits to apply.
