MP Al-Shibani accuses Dbeibeh of seeking to undermine parliament

Member of the House of Representatives, Jaballah Al-Shibani, has criticised Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, accusing him of seeking to discredit lawmakers who continue to attend parliamentary sessions.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page, Al-Shibani described parliament as a cornerstone of national unity, representing the country’s towns, villages, and countryside despite its shortcomings. He said MPs from the western region who participate in sessions held in the east were taking a political stance, adding that the prime minister was not in a position to question their decisions.
Al-Shibani characterised the period under Dbeibeh’s government as one of disorder and instability. Reflecting on the 2011 uprising, he said the events were inevitable but their outcomes had been disappointing. He reiterated his support for popular protests calling for improved living conditions, while criticising the political leadership of the time for welcoming foreign intervention.
He stressed that acknowledging the scale of the challenges facing Libya and working collectively to address them was the first step towards genuine reconciliation. He concluded by referring to the case of fellow MP Salem Qananu, noting that it reflects the concerns of many parliamentarians.
