Trabelsi reaffirms Arab security cooperation

Libya’s Minister of Interior, Major General Imad Trabelsi, has underlined the principle that Arab security is “indivisible”, reaffirming Libya’s solidarity with Gulf states and Jordan amid ongoing regional challenges.

Speaking on Wednesday at the 43rd session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, Trabelsi reiterated Libya’s position in support of safeguarding the security and stability of Arab countries, and confronting threats that could undermine their interests.

In his address, the minister highlighted efforts by Libya’s Ministry of Interior to strengthen security cooperation through enhanced information-sharing, the activation of memoranda of understanding, and the development of bilateral agreements. The remarks were outlined in a statement issued by the ministry.

Trabelsi stressed that achieving comprehensive security at national, regional and international levels remains a cornerstone for sustainable development. He noted that reinforcing security stability has, at present, taken precedence over political and economic challenges facing the region.

He also expressed Libya’s readiness to deploy its available resources in support of shared Arab causes, with the aim of strengthening collective security coordination among member states.

The session addressed a range of issues on its agenda, including a report by the council’s Secretary-General on activities between the 42nd and 43rd sessions, as well as a report from the President of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences on the institution’s work during the same period.

Discussions also covered a proposed second phase of the updated Arab counter-terrorism strategy, alongside recommendations emerging from conferences and meetings organised by the General Secretariat. The council further reviewed outcomes of joint meetings with regional and international bodies, in addition to several security matters of common concern.
