Paris set to become MedSky’s seventh European destination

Libyan airline MedSky is preparing to launch direct flights to Paris as part of a wider expansion of its European network, the company’s chief executive, Siraj Al-Fitouri, announced on Friday.

The airline has not yet disclosed the route’s launch date, frequency or departure and arrival airports.

Paris would become MedSky’s seventh European destination, adding to services connecting Libya with Athens, Düsseldorf, Madrid, Malta, Milan and Rome.

Al-Fitouri said the planned route would restore a direct air link between Libya and France after more than a decade and support the airline’s ambition to reconnect the country with major European capitals.

He also described Paris as an important gateway in MedSky’s longer-term plans to develop connections between Africa and Europe through Libya.

The announcement follows a period of rapid European expansion by the privately owned Libyan carrier. Al-Fitouri has also suggested in recent social media posts that further destinations are under consideration, including London, although no formal route announcement has been made.

MedSky’s plans come amid broader efforts to rebuild Libya’s international air links. A delegation representing ITA Airways and Lufthansa visited Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli earlier this week to assess its operational readiness and hold talks with the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority.

The visit was linked to preparations for a possible return of ITA Airways services to Libya, with discussions covering the technical, operational and security requirements for resuming flights.

Libyan aviation continues to face international restrictions and security concerns. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency last month extended its conflict-zone advisory for Libyan airspace until 31 January 2027.

The advisory is not a blanket prohibition on flights to Libya. It recommends avoiding parts of the Tripoli Flight Information Region, while allowing operations to coastal airports under specified conditions, including approaches from over the sea, coordination with local authorities and a detailed risk assessment.
