Al-Koni urges unified institutions to end Libya’s crisis
EU prioritises Libya stability as key to European security

Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council Musa Al-Koni met on Monday with the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, to discuss EU support for the Council’s initiatives aimed at breaking the political deadlock and safeguarding Libya’s unity.
According to a statement by the Presidential Council’s media office, Al-Koni reaffirmed that the Council “welcomes all efforts and initiatives seeking stability and unity in Libya,” but stressed this can only be achieved through a unified Libyan agreement among political actors, supported by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the broader international community.
Al-Koni warned that Libya would not achieve lasting stability without a single government and unified institutions, emphasising that political fragmentation risks “disastrous repercussions” for the country. He also highlighted the plight of Libya’s southern regions, which remain marginalised in a national equation increasingly divided between East and West.
For his part, Ambassador Orlando reiterated the EU’s strong support for the UN roadmap for Libya, describing the Libyan file as one of Europe’s top foreign policy priorities due to its significance for regional and European security. Despite the complexity of the crisis, Orlando stressed that Brussels remains committed to backing Libyan-led solutions.
