Libyan club edge past Espérance Sportive de Tunis in thrilling five-set final

Al-Suwaihli Volleyball Club have won their first African Club Volleyball Championship after defeating Espérance Sportive de Tunis 3-2 in Sunday’s final held in Misurata.

The Libyan side, under the guidance of Tunisian coach Mehdi Bel Sheikh, prevailed in a closely contested match that required all five sets to determine the champion.

Al-Suwaihli claimed the opening set 25-21 before Espérance levelled the contest by taking the second set 25-23. The pattern continued as Al-Suwaihli reclaimed the advantage with a 25-21 third-set win, only for Espérance to force a deciding set with a 25-21 victory in the fourth.

In the final set, Al-Suwaihli pulled away to secure a 15-11 win, clinching their maiden continental championship.

The result represents a significant achievement for Libyan volleyball, as Al-Suwaihli become the country’s first club to lift the prestigious African title.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
