A powerful explosion has killed seven people and injured at least 94 in a city in the north-west of China’s Shaanxi province.

The blast in Yulin happened at around 14:00 local time (06:00 GMT).

Early news reports said the explosion had happened near a hospital.

A local newspaper reported the explosion in the Xinmin district of the city “might be related to unlicensed storage of explosives” at a building nearby.

Other witnesses said there was a “crater” where a two-storey building used to be.
