Cairo opens roads and clears barriers near foreign missions

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, announced on Saturday that the authorities have begun dismantling all security barriers and reopening previously closed roads around diplomatic missions in the country, in a move aimed at restoring normal traffic flow in the capital.
Abdelatty, speaking to the local daily Al-Masry Al-Youm, confirmed that the decision applies to all foreign embassies without exception. “Quite simply… all barriers will be removed, and all roads in front of foreign embassies in Egypt will be reopened,” he said.
The decision comes shortly after the British Embassy in Cairo temporarily closed its main premises following the removal of barriers from its surroundings. The embassy, however, resumed normal operations only a few days later.
