HNEC: December 24 vote was no longer possible

Libya’s Election Faces Uncertainty

The member of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) Abubakar Marda said elections on December 24 is from the past as the process needs more time, especially regarding the election campaigns of candidates.

Marda told Fawasel news platform that the HNEC didn’t talk about the technical issues it was facing and conducted all the previous preparatory phases until it reached a point that it had to work with its partners in the electoral process.

“We have partners at this stage and the HNEC has no power over them. It isn’t about technical issues. The HNEC delivered its final report to the House of Representatives’ committee on the challenges it had faced at the presidential candidacy appeals stage that were caused by the partners. The committee will issue a decision afterward.” He added.

The electoral process remains uncertain with only 8 days to go for the December 24 deadline. The HNEC hasn’t issued a final list of presidential or parliamentary candidates.
