The Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi declared that the war against the Islamic State (IS) is over.

Al-Abadi making the announcement at a press conference in Baghdad said Iraqi army has control over the entire Iraqi-Syrian border.

The border and surrounding areas were the last strongholds of IS after losing the town Rawa in November and Al-Mousl earlier this year.

Iraq’s announcement comes two days after the Russian military declared it had accomplished its mission of defeating IS in neighboring Syria.
