Iraq’s prime minister vowed yesterday to rid his country of jihadists within a year as troops celebrated a resounding victory over Isis in Ramadi by slaughtering sheep in the city’s streets.

“2016 will be the year of the big and final victory, when Daesh’s presence in Iraq will be terminated,” Haider al-Abadi said. “We are coming to liberate Mosul and it will be the fatal and final blow to Daesh.”
