Italian Interior Minister meets with Libyan PM in Tripoli on an official visit

The two officials and their teams discussed various issues of common interest to both nations with the problem of illegal migration being highlighted during the meeting by both parties

Abdelhamid Dabeiba, Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, met Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese and her delegation at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Tripoli.

The Italian Minister is in Libya on an official visit, welcomed by the Ministers of the Interior, Major General Khalid Mazen, and the head of the Cabinet.

During the discussion, the Italian Minister emphasized the need for continuing contact with the Libyan Ministry of Interior in order to coordinate a number of critical joint files, the most urgent of which is the pressing problem of illegal immigration.

As stated by the Government Information Office, the Head of Government emphasized the need of reactivating Italy’s involvement in the migrant issue and establishing meaningful collaboration between the two Ministries.

The meeting also discussed recent developments in Tunisia and their implications for the immigration crisis.
