Janzour building collapse: Owner jailed, contractor prosecuted

Seven people have died and ten have been injured after a three-storey residential building collapsed in Janzour, west of Tripoli, the Emergency Medicine and Support Centre reported on Thursday. Two survivors were rescued from the rubble.
The Attorney General’s Office announced it has detained the building’s owner and issued an arrest warrant for the construction contractor.
Investigators found the structure failed to meet safety specifications and violated urban planning regulations, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.
The collapse occurred on Wednesday night, 8 November, in the Janzour municipality, sending shockwaves through the local community.
