Libya expands specialised healthcare services

Libya’s Health Services Support and Development Agency has continued to advance its treatment localisation programme, overseeing a series of specialised cardiac and hearing procedures across the country as part of efforts to strengthen domestic healthcare services and reduce reliance on treatment abroad.
As part of the initiative, the agency launched the “Nabd” Campaign at Tajoura Heart Centre, where diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisation procedures have been performed for patients registered on waiting lists.
The agency said the operations were carried out by specialised Libyan medical teams and were completed successfully, with patients receiving ongoing post-operative follow-up care to ensure their recovery and stability.
In western Libya, Misrata Medical Centre has continued performing cochlear implant surgeries for patients from across the country who are awaiting treatment. The programme forms part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing waiting times and expanding access to specialised healthcare services within public medical institutions.
According to the agency, the initiative is helping to improve access to critical treatment while alleviating the burden on patients and their families by reducing the need to seek medical care overseas.
Meanwhile, Tripoli University Hospital has continued conducting complex cardiac surgeries, including coronary artery bypass graft procedures and heart valve repair and replacement operations. The surgeries are being carried out under the direct supervision of the Health Services Support and Development Agency as part of efforts to enhance specialised healthcare services and strengthen the capabilities of public hospitals.
The agency said the programmes are being implemented within a comprehensive national strategy to localise treatment inside Libya, in line with government directives aimed at supporting the healthcare sector, expanding the availability of specialised medical services, and reducing patient waiting lists.
Officials added that additional phases of the programme are expected to be rolled out in the coming months as authorities seek to further improve access to advanced medical care across the country.
