Libya restarts Brega gas unit to cut flaring

Gas recovery at Brega set to reduce waste and support supplies

Sirte Oil Company has restarted a natural gas processing unit at Brega after years out of service, enabling Libya to recover gas that would otherwise be burnt off.

The National Oil Corporation said the unit would redirect 60 million cubic feet of gas into the supply network, reducing flaring and making more of the resource available for use. The announcement did not specify whether the figure represented a daily volume.

The corporation announced the restart on 25 October, citing environmental protection and improved use of Libya’s gas resources as the expected benefits.
