Libyan MPs push to replace Speaker Aguila Saleh
Lobbying intensifies inside Libya’s parliament to replace Aguila Saleh

Libyan Express has learned from well-informed parliamentary sources that intense lobbying and political manoeuvring are underway within the Libyan House of Representatives to remove Speaker Aguila Saleh from his post.
According to the sources, a coalition of MPs and lobbying groups has been quietly building momentum to elevate Second Deputy Speaker Misbah Douma to the leadership position, as part of a broader attempt to reconfigure power dynamics inside the chamber.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that these moves come amid mounting frustration among lawmakers over what they describe as Saleh’s “increasingly unilateral” management of key political files — particularly the constitutional track, unification process, and the long-delayed elections.
Analysts say the emerging front against Saleh highlights the growing fragmentation within Libya’s eastern-based parliament, which has struggled to maintain internal cohesion and credibility amid the country’s ongoing political deadlock.
The potential leadership shake-up, if realised, could mark a significant shift in the balance of power inside one of Libya’s most influential political institutions and may have far-reaching implications for the national dialogue efforts aimed at ending years of division.
