The Libyan Red Crescent volunteers recovered on Tuesday five bodies of immigrants off the shore of Sirte, about 450 kilometers east of the capital Tripoli.

The five bodies were recovered in Harawa district in eastern Sirte, the Red Crescent said on its Facebook page.

Last December, the Red Crescent said 15 illegal immigrants drowned when their boat capsized off the city of Misurata, some 250 kilometers east of Tripoli.

Libya has been number one destination for illegal immigrants coming from African and sub-Saharan countries wishing to take the boat trip via the Mediterranean to reach Europe for better living conditions.
