Authorities intercept 20 migrants in Nouadhibou

Authorities in the Mauritanian city of Nouadhibou have detained twenty irregular migrants of various foreign nationalities who were reportedly preparing to travel to the Spanish coast.

A statement issued by the Mauritanian gendarmerie on Thursday confirmed that three of those detained were women, including two minors. The statement did not provide details about their nationalities.

The gendarmerie also arrested an individual described as a key associate of the main organiser of the operation, who is reportedly a foreign national.

This action is part of ongoing efforts by Mauritanian security forces to address irregular migration and dismantle related criminal networks.
