Norland looks into the Libyan crisis with the President of Congo

The US Ambassador/Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, has discussed the Libyan situation in talks with President of Congo Republic Sassou N’Guesso/ Chairperson of the African Union (AU) High-Level Committee on Libya.

Norland, who ended a three-day visit to Brazzaville, reiterated to N’Guesso his country’s support for the African Union agenda.

“The United States recognises President Sassou’s leadership and continued efforts in search of a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Libya,” a statement by the US embassy said on Friday.

The statement reaffirmed Washington’s support for Libyan and international efforts to achieve a unified and inclusive government that would secure the country and fulfil the economic and humanitarian needs of the Libyan people.

“We support ongoing efforts by the AU…in cooperation with Libya’s Presidential Council, to help implement a roadmap on reconciliation that will bring Libyan stakeholders from across the country as well as international partners… in support of durable peace, the unification of institutions, peaceful elections, a stable democratic transition, and economic prosperity for the Libyan people.”
