Russian and Syrian intelligence officials meet in Azerbaijan

Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia’s SVR foreign intelligence service, held what he described as “a constructive and friendly meeting” with an unnamed representative of Syrian intelligence services, according to state news agency TASS on Friday.
TASS reported that Naryshkin said the meeting took place last week in Baku, Azerbaijan. No further details about the discussions were provided.
Russia continues efforts to strengthen its military presence in Syria, where it maintains both an airbase and a naval facility.
