Sabha International Airport closes for 15 days for runway maintenance

Operations at Sabha International Airport have been temporarily suspended from Saturday, as authorities begin a scheduled maintenance programme on the airport’s runway.
In a statement, airport management confirmed that the closure will remain in effect for 15 days. The works are aimed at improving runway conditions and ensuring compliance with aviation safety standards.
Officials said the maintenance forms part of broader efforts to enhance the airport’s infrastructure and operational readiness, allowing it to safely accommodate flights in line with approved technical requirements.
Passengers advised to make alternative arrangements
The airport administration has called on passengers to take note of the temporary suspension and make the necessary travel arrangements until further notice. Reopening will be subject to authorisation from the relevant authorities once maintenance works are completed.
Management added that updates regarding the resumption of operations will be announced through official communication channels and the airport’s verified social media platforms.
The closure is expected to affect domestic and regional travel to and from southern Libya, where Sabha serves as a key transport hub.
