Spain Pledges Continued Support for Libya

Spain’s Ambassador to Libya, Javier Soria, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Libya and the United Nations mission during talks in Benghazi.
The pledge came during a meeting with Youssef Al-Agouri, Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee, at the parliament’s headquarters. The officials discussed Libya’s political and economic developments alongside joint cooperation programmes.
Al-Agouri highlighted Spain’s role in supporting Libyan stability, emphasising the interconnected security interests between both nations. He called on the European Union to take stronger action in preventing foreign interference and helping Libya achieve its democratic aspirations through free and fair elections.
Addressing migration concerns, Al-Agouri stressed the need for coordinated efforts between Libya and the EU to manage unprecedented migration flows, which he described as a significant challenge for all parties. He noted that the House of Representatives had fulfilled its obligations by passing laws for parliamentary and presidential elections, as well as the constitutional referendum.
Al-Agouri reiterated parliament’s stance on the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory. Both officials agreed to maintain dialogue and coordination on various issues to promote stability and prosperity for the Libyan people.
