The Minister of Labor visiting Cairo soon to look into the return of Egyptian workers
GNU's Minister of Labor is set to visit Cairo shortly to address facilitating the process the return of Egyptian workers to Libya
Ali Al-Abed Al-Rida, Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation in the Government of National Unity, said he would be traveling to Cairo shortly to discuss the issue of Egyptian workers returning to Libya.
He continued in statements to Sputnik that after the visit, the number of personnel entering Libya might be disclosed, especially since an agreement relating to the electronic link between the two nations’ ministries was struck in 2013.
After most employment offices in the regions had been linked, the Minister announced that the Ministry was in the process of trying to account for foreign employment.
He said, “but we have already started to activate labor inspection offices in the areas to follow up on the file of illegal entrants and arrange work, which is part of the plan being undertaken by the Ministry.”
“We published a circular earlier this month on the requirement for all arriving personnel to regularize their situation in compliance with the statutory regulations,” he continued.
Egypt and Libya agreed to form a joint committee to establish the regulations governing Egyptian employees’ return to Libya. The accord was discussed during Egypt’s Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly’s April visit to Libya, during which he visited his Libyan counterpart, Abdelhamid Dabeiba.
Magdi Al-Badawi, Deputy Head of the General Federation of Egyptian Trade Unions, stated in May that around one million Egyptian employees will return to Libya as part of a total of three million employees to assist in Libya’s reconstruction.
