Tunisia keeps former top judge in custody

Tunisia’s Court of First Instance Criminal Chamber on Monday rejected a bail request from Taïeb Rached, the former First President of the country’s Court of Cassation, and postponed his trial until March.
Rached appeared in custody before the Criminal Chamber, accompanied by his attorney who remains free on bail. The former top judge faces multiple serious charges, including:
– Bribery
– Document forgery and fraudulent use of documents
– Abuse of public office
– Witness intimidation
– Filing false criminal complaints
– Criminal fraud
At the conclusion of Monday’s hearing, the Criminal Chamber denied Rached’s request for release and scheduled the next court proceedings for March.
This high-profile case has drawn significant attention as it involves one of Tunisia’s former senior judicial officials
