Tunisian FM: Diplomatic presence ‘falls short of needs

Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, disclosed that the country maintains 60 diplomatic missions globally during a parliamentary budget session on Saturday.

Speaking to MPs, Mr Nafti detailed that the missions comprise 18 embassies in Arab nations, 22 in Europe, seven in Asia, five in the Americas and 10 in sub-Saharan Africa, spanning 48 countries. The diplomatic network also includes 23 consulates and consulates general.

The minister acknowledged that the current diplomatic footprint falls short of requirements and policy objectives. However, he emphasised that Tunisia remains committed to expanding its diplomatic representation “whenever appropriate conditions are available”.

Despite these limitations, Mr Nafti maintained that Tunisia continues to strengthen its diplomatic efforts across traditional spheres of influence whilst seeking to broaden its international engagement.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
